Description

Gain the satisfaction of helping feed local needy families fresh organic produce during the growing season. Volunteers will build community while getting our garden space ready for planting. This might include finishing garden cleanup and improving garden landscaping for safety, moving trellises made with cattle panels, loosening soil in beds, planting seedlings/seeds, mulching beds, weeding targeted areas, etc. Tasks will range from light garden/yard work to cattle panel wrangling. Some hauling supplies in wheelbarrows is likely. A volunteer group of maximum size will be split into smaller groups to cover more tasks. We will know in more detail exactly what projects & tasks will need to be done closer to the event. We welcome you to participate in the larger sense of community and peace that is Prairiewoods and its partnership with Metro Catholic Outreach Food Pantry (MCO). Since 2024, we've been delivering fresh garden produce to the Hiawatha Library food pantry as well as MCO.
