Who We Are
Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center is a sacred space where people of all faiths and cultures are invited to explore and nurture their relationships with the Source of all Being, Earth, Self and Others, with an increasing awareness of the story of the Universe. Prairiewoods is sponsored by Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, a Catholic community.
Since 2014, Prairiewoods has supported efforts to alleviate food insecurity by hosting the Green Prairie Garden, where fresh produce is grown for Metro Catholic Outreach food pantry.
Metro Catholic Outreach is a collaborative project of the 11 Catholic parishes of the Cedar Rapids, Iowa metro area. This outreach provides a food pantry, community assistance referrals, and financial assistance for housing and utilities to those in need in the Cedar Rapids Metro area. We also have a garden where volunteers grow produce for our food baskets during the season.
Our office and food pantry have been open since February 2012. We have grown over the years and now typically serve 90-150 families each month.
What We Do
With the vital help of many volunteers, we distribute food baskets to families in need. We assist people in need financially each month. We also refer clients to other resources as necessary.
Our Green Prairie Garden volunteers grow produce for our food baskets.
