Who We Are

Miracles in Motion is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with program accreditation by PATH, the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International. We provide therapeutic equestrian activities to thousands of people with physical, cognitive and developmental challenges since 1988. Students have gained strength, self-confidence and independence through the connection and interaction with our horses. Each of our 15 horses have been carefully selected for the Miracles program and is based on their temperament and size. All students are paired with a horse that provides the appropriate therapeutic experience depending on their individual needs. The benefits to program participants range from recreational to improved self esteem, enhanced communication skills to building a trust relationship. Volunteers receive personal satisfaction in helping people with special challenges, enabling them to participate in this unique recreational therapy.  Our programs include: * Therapeutic horseback riding *Veterans Program - Assisting veterans with PTSD, TBI and other physical needs * Miracles in Motion also provides the resources to Children's Center for Therapy, Mercy Medical Center and St. Luke's Hospital to host Hippotherapy. This is a doctor prescribed therapy that's recognized as a medical treatment and is conducted on horseback.

Miracles in Motion began in 1988 with six students and borrowed horses. Riding classes were conducted at a borrowed facility until 1993. The Miracles horses were boarded at Upmier Stables and transported to hosting arenas. We received NARHA accreditation in 1997. In 1993 we moved to our current Swisher, Iowa location. The Miracles program has expanded to include therapeutic riding, Hippotherapy, Horse 101, and Veterans programming. Today, Miracles in Motion serves more than 170 students per year with a work force of approximately 180 dedicated volunteers and a herd of 15 horses. The students served come from Linn, Iowa and Johnson Counties, and many surrounding communities in Eastern Iowa. The student population consists of children and adults with physical, cognitive and psycho-social challenges. As Iowa's first PATH Premier Accredited Center, Miracles in Motion meets the highest standards set forth by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship. PATH provides continuing education for staff and instructors, with PATH instructor training workshops hosted at Miracles in Motion annually for people from around the country.
