Wayfinder volunteers have one of the most important, most visible, assignments in the hospital. Volunteers assist the greeter staff in supporting our No Point policy, ensuring that patients and visitors reach their destination with ease. Qualifications: Volunteers in this role must be able to: 1. Stand for a minimum two hour shift 2. Push wheelchairs and walk long distances.  Lab Runner Description: Lab Runners are a huge asset to our procedural departments and to the lab! By having volunteers pick up lab specimens we allow staff to focus on clinical duties and impact the speed upon which our patients and their physicians receive test results. They pick up lab specimens from designated locations throughout the Hospital once each hour during a 4 to 5-hour shift and deliver them hourly to the Main Lab. Lab Runners document specimens in their locations and keep track of the numbers of specimens collected in different areas. Qualifications: Volunteers in this assignment must: 1. Possess a high level of commitment and dependable attendance. 2. Have the ability to work with minimal supervision. 3. Understand and be able to maintain privacy and confidentiality. 4. Be able to walk long distances for extended periods of time. 5. Possess good manual dexterity for handling patient specimens. 6. Understand Universal Precautions and practice effective infection control. Surgicare Escort & Ambassador Description: It's no wonder St. Luke's is known as the best surgery center in Cedar Rapids! By becoming a Surgicare Escort Ambassador you can become a part of this team- ensuring that we provide the healthcare we'd like our loved ones to receive! Volunteers in SurgiCare provide assistance to the Guest Relations and Surgicare staff, becoming a valuable part of the work that is done daily to care for our surgical and procedural patients. Through Volunteers the Surgicare team is able to: 1. Minimize anxiety and boredom by providing emotional support and meeting physical needs of patients and their family and friends. 2. Address comfort needs of the patients family and friends in a prompt and courteous manner. 3. Serve as a customer service liaison for staff to promote patient satisfaction. 4. Expedite care by performing routine tasks that support the staff. 5. Physical Therapy - Rehabilitation Volunteer Description: Make an immediate impact on our state of the art 26 bed Rehabilitation Unit. If you are interested in assisting Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Therapists as they work with patients with strokes, head injuries and spinal cord injuries then this is the place for you. Patients on this unit are here from 2 weeks to 2 months so you will be able to see and be part of the incredible progress they make from day to day and week to week. Volunteers in this assignment are friendly, courteous and empathetic, have good communication and interpersonal skills and exercise good judgment.  Witwer Children's Therapy Clinical Volunteer Description: Do you have an interest in working with children with neurological injuries and disabilities? Then this job is perfect for you. You will become part of a team of Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech Language Pathologists who work with children with the goal of getting them to their highest level of function possible. You will be responsible for greeting patients and their families, assisting with indirect patient care duties such as moving or stabilizing a wheelchair or PT table, changing linens, cleaning toys and equipment, adjusting assistive devices, assisting with treatment setup, clerical functions and other duties that help the facility run efficiently and effectively. There are two sites that you could be assigned to: Witwer SW Cedar Rapids and Witwer Hiawatha. Qualifications: Volunteers in this assignment must: 1. Imaging Services Volunteer Description: If you're the kind of person who likes to make sure that everyone feels comfortable and well taken care of then this might be the right position for you. Imaging Services volunteers help to check patients in to the department and escort them to the various areas within Imaging Services that they need to go to. In between helping patients and families, you will help the office staff with a variety of filing, organization and clean up tasks that will help the department run at its most effective and efficient. This is an excellent opportunity for any person who is interested in becoming an sonographer or radiologic technician as you will get to see up close personal how a busy Imaging department works.  Floral and Gift Shop

Description: The gift shop is the “Happy Place” in the hospital where patients, families and employees go to grab a snack, shop for unique items, and get a well-deserved break from their stressful day. Our volunteers provide assistance with the customers’ shopping experience by operating the cash register, pricing new inventory, answering the phone, filling in stock and straightening racks.

Volunteers in the Floral Shop may assist with taking orders, delivering flowers, or helping to create floral arrangements! Qualifications: Volunteers in this assignment must:
1. Be able to be on their feet for extended periods of time.
2. Be an extroverted, mature, cooperative, positive service-oriented individual with effective communication skills and positive body language.
