Riders Club is the car someone no longer drives.

Riders and drivers can be active 24/7 which means there are times they cannot find each other.  Since the office is only open for scheduling from 9 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday, we need someone to answer the phone outside office hours and on Holidays.

Work from any location that has a phone to help drivers, riders and the office!  Our phone system allows us to forward phones to any number.  We can even adjust the call destination remotely!

Our Ride Management System (RCA RMS) gives you all the information to help others get back on track. 

You will need web access and a computer.  Printing out the master manifest allows you to be mobile without using the internet on your mobile phone.  A common evening involves 0 to 5 phone calls.

Anamosa High School is opening up their new gym to the community! 

We're looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to serve as the welcoming face of the gym during open hours. This role includes greeting community members, helping ensure a safe and positive environment, and acting as the on site host/supervisor for the shift.

Volunteer will receive training on the use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and the Emergency Contact Plan. 

This is a great opportunity to support community wellness, meet new people, and help make this shared space welcoming for everyone.

Site Coordinator

Camp Wapsie uses a lot of firewood for campfires. We are seeking volunteers who can bring their own chainsaw and help cut down dying trees or cut up down trees for firewood. We will fell most trees that are near buildings or in more dangerous spots. We also have a splitter volunteers can use to split wood. Volunteers must be fairly active as this is a somewhat physical activity. Volunteers fill out a Voluntary Disclosure form if they are here when we have guests in camp.

Camp Wapsie has several areas that could use some painting updates. We are seeking volunteers who can help us painting some walls, benches, signs and other areas around camp. Make a Difference in the Kitchen with Meals on Wheels!

Meals on Wheels serves our community by preparing and delivering hot, nutritious meals to clients each weekday. Volunteers play a vital role in helping us meet this mission—and we couldn’t do it without you!

Available Kitchen Opportunities:

Ingredient Preparation — 7:30/8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Assist with washing, chopping, and preparing ingredients for the day’s meals.

Assembly Line Assistance — 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Work alongside staff and fellow volunteers to assemble hot, nutritious meals.

Meal Packaging
Help package approximately 600 meals per day with a dedicated, friendly team.

Route Organization — Monday through Friday
Assist in organizing and staging meals for delivery to our clients.

Congregate Meals (Brownstone Café) — 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Support our community dining program by serving meals and engaging with guests.

Each of these roles offers the chance to work with a supportive team while making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

Join us in delivering “more than just a meal.” As a Meals on Wheels volunteer driver, you’ll provide nutritious food, a friendly visit, a safety check—and the reassurance that someone cares. Your time helps seniors remain safe and independent in their own homes.

Our dedicated volunteers deliver more than 1,000 meals each weekday across the metro area. Drivers pick up meals around 10:45 a.m. from various pick-up sites, and each route takes about one hour to complete.

Flexible Opportunities:
Our routes are both family-friendly and business-friendly. You can deliver once a week, once a month, or as your schedule allows—we’ll work with you to find a fit that works best.

Volunteer Requirements:

A current driver’s license

Your own vehicle and proof of auto insurance

Completion of a background check prior to delivering

Youth are welcome to accompany an adult driver!

Purpose: Help clients select items needed from the food pantry.

Location: The food pantry in the Mission of Hope at 1700 B Ave NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402

Reports to: Will Torrey, Michael Johnson

Dress Code: Casual (Prohibited clothing items include: anything with excessive holes, offensive/inappropriate/drug-related/gang-related language or logos, excessively short skirts/shorts, excessively low-cut shirts)

Time Commitment: Shifts are from 1:00PM – 4:00PM on weekdays; 1:00PM – 3:00PM on Saturdays.  Please let us know at least one day in advance when you plan to come in.

Responsibilities:

Additional skills/qualifications: Must be friendly, respectful, and willing to work with others.  Must be dependable, adaptable to change, and eager to complete tasks with a smile.  Any experience in retail/grocery stores a plus, but not required.

You can make a difference in the life of a homebound senior in your community! Delivering “more than just a meal,” your visit will provide healthy nutrition, a safety check, a friendly smile, and the support for these individuals to remain in their homes.

Our volunteer Meals on Wheels drivers deliver over 100 meals each weekday all across the Iowa City area. Delivery drivers pick up meals between 10:30 and 11:00 am and then each delivery route takes approximately one hour.

Our routes are both family-friendly and business-friendly. Deliver one day a week, once a month – you can choose your own schedule! We can also adjust routes to meet your work schedule.

Drivers must have a current driver’s license, be able to drive their own vehicle, and must provide proof of auto insurance. Volunteers must also complete a background check prior to delivering meals. Youth are welcome to accompany an adult driver on deliveries!

Our Vigil volunteers are dedicated individuals who provide emotional support and companionship to patients and their families in their final days of life.  They sit bedside, offering comfort through conversation, prayer, music or simply just being present. 

Our compassion visits are all about meeting the patient where they are at.  Visits can be anything from holding a patient's hand, reading to the patient, talking with the patient to watching TV, listening to music and playing games. 

Stock shelves for a good cause! The Cultivate Hope Corner Store is a small, nonprofit grocery store owned and operated by local nonprofit Matthew 25. Our vision is to make this community grocery store a vibrant space that brings neighbors together and provides a convenient location for healthy food in a food desert neighborhood. Our store offers a free produce section, affordable to-go meals, and food education as part of our mission to support a strong community, increase food security, invest in local people and neighborhoods, encourage healthy living, and express care for sustainably-grown food.

As a nonprofit grocery store, we are always looking for volunteers to help support this vital neighborhood resource. Volunteer tasks include helping customers, stocking and organizing shelves, preparing and serving food, and unloading delivery trucks.

Time Commitment: Corner Store hours of operation are 9am-7pm Monday-Saturday. We ask that volunteers please commit to a minimum monthly shift.

If you love to tinker with tools and are looking for a way to give back to your community, look no further than the Tool Library! The Matthew 25 Tool Library is a community resource that provides easy and affordable access to a variety of tools. Our library has an extensive collection of unique hand and power tools from miter, jig and chain saws to power washers and paint sprayers. We try to have a tool for every job and more importantly, offer this service for anyone in the community to access the tools they need to improve their homes and communities, at no or low cost. Many of these tools are used for our other home repair projects with volunteer groups!

As a 100% fully volunteer-run program, we are always looking for volunteers to help us continue providing this vital resource for the community. Volunteer tasks include assessing donated tools, helping customers complete their checkouts, and organizing and maintaining inventory.

Become a volunteer driver with the American Cancer Society Road To Recovery program and provide rides as requested from cancer patients to and from their cancer treatments. Most rides take place during the hours of 7AM-6PM, Monday through Friday. The frequency of requests and times vary daily depending on how many patients need a ride at any given time. Every volunteer driver donates their time and gas - and can decide how often to provide rides, when, and how far! This is a very flexible and meaningful program - which can be lifesaving for cancer patients who have no other transportation options.

Volunteer drivers must have:

* A current, valid driver’s license and between the ages of 18-84
* A good driving record
* Access to a safe and reliable vehicle
* Proof of adequate automobile insurance

Responsibilities:

WRAP's Client Experience Specialist will chat with clients after their project is completed to administer a short Customer Satisfaction Survey. 

Fifteen questions take less than 10 minutes to complete, and the data you gather helps WRAP improve its processes and performance.  

Qualifications:

Skills needed include the ability to talk on the phone, gather and record clients responses to questions and record data.

Volunteers support small groups of students (4-7) as they create, edit, and shop through their budgets. All discussion and activity materials are provided, and volunteers can share their real world experiences to help students understand different financial commitments they will have as they grow up. Volunteer orientation is provided morning of the simulation, and no previous expertise is required

Schedule: Flexible with weekday shifts available! Administrative Technology Volunteers will be tasked with roles fitting their availability, skills, and level of comfort. This will be an on-site volunteer opportunity. 

To help patients look good—which can help patients feel better—UnityPoint Hospice Cedar Rapids seeks licensed barbers and cosmetologists to volunteer their services to homebound hospice patients.

Professionals who volunteer must have a current and valid state license, and they also must undergo hospice volunteer training. You can be a part of helping not only to maintain someone's very appearance, but to maintain their dignity of life.

Hospice is not a place, but a philosophy of care. While a hospice serves those on their end-of-life journey, the process really concerns living—and, in as many cases as possible, living in the patient's home. At UnityPoint Hospice, we provide each patient comfort and the best possible care. Our volunteers play a critical role in our patients’ journey. They help to fulfill our goal — to help patients and their families live every moment.

UnityPoint Hospice volunteers complete 14 hours of training in hospice philosophy, end-of-life care issues, and documentation. They also participate in ongoing educational opportunities throughout the year. We seek licensed barbers and hairdressers to volunteer, providing haircuts and related services to hospice patients in their homes.

Join our team of upbeat, big-hearted people who help to bring peace to those with terminal illnesses.

As a respite care volunteer with UnityPoint Hospice, you stay with the patient to allow caregivers or loved ones time to take care of themselves. This may be time to get a haircut, go to the grocery store, or even a day-long outing with friends. A visit with a patient might last two to four hours (or, in rare instances, enough time to allow the caregiver a day-long outing).

Volunteers are essential to the compassionate and personalized care provided by UnityPoint Hospice. Before you can visit patients, Iowa law requires hospice volunteers to undergo 14 hours of training (as well as background checks). At UnityPoint Hospice, we provide some of that training in person, and some of it online. Training includes such topics as hospice philosophy, attitudes toward death, preparing for death at home, spirituality in hospice, communication skills, and grief/bereavement.

UnityPoint Hospice provides individualized patient and family-centered care to eastern Iowans within a 50-mile radius of Cedar Rapids. UnityPoint Hospice volunteers serve patients and their families in their homes or in care facilities as well as in the inpatient unit at UnityPoint St. Luke's Hospital. Volunteers' many services include providing companionship, socialization, and two- to three-hour respite services.  

Aging Services strives to keep older adults as independent and active for as long as possible by providing a wide variety of programs and resources. 

Aging Services provides volunteer-based transportation services free of charge to older adults in our community so they are able to get to and from medical appointments and essential errands such as food banks and the pharmacy. Volunteers give their time, but are reimbursed mileage! 

The transportation program runs Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.  Volunteers are notified a week in advance of potential driving opportunities, which the volunteer is able to accept or decline.  We love working with your schedule and are very flexible!

Aging Services Chore volunteers use basic skills and tools to fix minor problems in an older adult's home. Projects can range from installing safety rails, fixing a dripping faucet, to screwing in light bulbs and washing curtains.  Chore Services staff contact volunteers in advance to see if a project may be of interest to you.  Volunteers are welcome to accept or decline the project when it is proposed to them.  Your handy work will help a senior to continue to live independently in their own home.  There's no place like home!

Volunteers will fill out an application, pass background checks and must own some basic tools to participate.  We will need you to be able to make simple repairs around the home of a client, adhere to the scope of work, and work with ASI staff to arrange for purchase of minor supply needs.

Start a new adventure!!  Friendly visitor volunteers are matched with an older adult whose social network has decreased due to reduced mobility, the relocation of family and friends, or shrinking peer group. You will be matched with an older adult with similar interests, to meet one hour a week (or more) on a day and time mutually agreed upon.  Talk Hawkeye sports, bake cookies, share family photos, or simply chat about current events. 

Volunteers will apply with Aging Services, pass background checks, and go through a brief training on volunteer policy and procedure.

YPN is seeking individuals who have an imagination and would love to be the sidekick to a young child! We hold prenatal and parenting group meetings on Thursday evenings from 5:30-7:30 p.m. year round and provide on-site childcare for children ages 0-5. This opportunity provides flexibility in your schedule. We also welcome and encourage bilingual volunteers as YPN serves Hispanic, African and Afghan families that speak limited to no English. 

Required hand hygiene at all entrances/exits and between sessions.

All volunteers must complete an application, interview, and a background check. All volunteers must be 15 years of age or older to volunteer on their own.

First aid items are a necessity for our shelter. In order to keep clients healthy and safe, we need to have multiple first aid kits on hand.

We are looking for volunteers who can purchase first aid items and assemble them into kits for us. These will be used to support clients at both our Emergency Shelter and the Community Overflow Shelter. You can drop them off at our Emergency Shelter or have them mailed to us: 1247 4th Ave SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403. You can also purchase kits from our Amazon Wish List: https://a.co/iEfrgCr.

Kits should include bandages, alcohol wipes, Neosporin, scissors, toe nail clippers, gauze, and medical tape. You are also welcome to include medications such as Tylenol, ibuprofen, tums, Pepto Bismol, and cough drops.

During the week, clients at Willis Dady are able to visit other meal sites in the community for any food they need. On weekends, many of these sites close, so Willis Dady looks for groups of volunteers to prepare and serve a meal to the clients. These meals bring needed sustenance and a sense of comfort and support to the clients, as it helps demonstrate the community’s support in their efforts to find housing and employment.

Willis Dady has the only showers in Cedar Rapids that are are free for clients to access. In an attempt to fill this gap in resources, Willis Dady opened additional showers at our Willis Dady Works (WDW) location in 2022.

Having assembled hygiene kits assists our front desk volunteers when checking in clients for their appointments. They no longer need to juggle all the individual toiletry items, but rather they can grab an assembled kit to hand to a client.

Hopeful Mama Foundation ("HMF") is looking for volunteers to assist with staffing at both events hosted by HMF and events put on by the community. Duties may include sharing HMF's mission, passing out resources, selling merchandise, etc.

Grow Pamoja - Urban Garden Grow Pamoja offers immigrants and refugees hands-on farming experience in America. Our urban garden provides access to agricultural resources, supporting local food systems and empowering newcomers to grow and contribute to their communities.

English Language Program: Building Confidence and Community At United We March Forward (UWMF), we believe that language is the key to opportunity. Our English Language Program is designed to help immigrants and refugees gain proficiency in English, enhancing their ability to navigate life in the United States. We offer in-person classes, ensuring a supportive environment where students can learn and practice together.

Partnering with Kirkwood Community College, we provide additional small group sessions to meet the diverse needs of our learners. Our program also offers access to language learning tools like Rosetta Stone, allowing students to practice at their own pace, wherever they feel comfortable. Our goal is to empower individuals to succeed in their personal and professional lives while fostering a sense of community.

Outdoor opportunity! As a land care and maintenance volunteer, you or your group will play an important role in carrying out Prairiewoods' sustainability mission on our 70-acre woodland and prairie property. Work varies by season and according to weather, but could include trail maintenance, gardening, invasive species removal, harvesting, plowing, mowing, woodworking, other specific conservation or building projects, etc. We have a variety of opportunities and projects to suit different skill-sets and interests.

We also have Woodland Wednesdays that happen every Wednesday mornings from spring through fall and you'll be part of a team of volunteers that help out on the grounds during the morning and then served a delicious lunch afterwards. What is the Language Lab?

Here at the Catherine McAuley Center, we strive to provide the best possible programming to meet our community’s needs. One of our programs that has taken off with great success is the Language Lab. The Language Lab is a drop in computer lab time where a tutor/coach facilitates and engages students to foster Digital Literacy, English competency, and student confidence by utilizing a variety of digital tools. The tools we use are targeted to reach as wide a range of computer and English literacy as possible- Whether it’s the student’s first time holding a mouse or the student has a background in IT, the Language Lab facilitator will try to find the right programs to help the student meet their goals. 

Highest Needs: Monday 5-7pm, Tuesday 10-12pm and 5-7pm, Thursday 10-12pm and either 5-6pm or 6-7pm (only one hour of support needed), and Saturday 10-12pm.

Virtual Roles: Teach and support adult learners as they improve basic academic skills, learn English, or study for the U.S. citizenship exam.

Help with the upkeep of CMC facilities!

Roles: General upkeep of outdoor property (landscaping) and fix-it tasks.  Work with tools and equipment to do minor repairs.  Assist with basic maintenance projects as needed as well as outdoor maintenance with yard work. Qualifications: experience with general maintenance repairs. Comfortable working with cement walls (preferred). Ability to perform light to moderate physical tasks. Basic knowledge of tools, equipment, and lawncare. Commitment to a weekly shift during hours of operation (M, T, Th 9-7pm, W 8-6pm, and/or Fri/Sat 9-12pm). 

Schedule: Weekday availability - 1 day per week.

Promote a Place of Welcome as people enter CMC!

Roles: Assist staff at the front desk. Screen, greet, and direct visitors entering the building. Answer the phone and direct calls to staff. Assist guests who are visiting the food pantry. Help receive donations. Stock the hospitality station.

Qualifications: Friendly, patient, and welcoming. Comfortable interacting with a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Ability to speak and hear required. Ability to stand/ move around helpful.

Times with the highest needs: Between 2pm and 4pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and 5-7pm on Thursdays.

This group meets weekly to prepare materials for the schools and nursing homes, make pillows for cancer treatment patients, and a number of other community based activities.
