At AARP, one of our most valuable assets is our amazing team of volunteers. Through education, advocacy and service, AARP volunteers and staff work together to address community needs. With your skills knowledge and wisdom, you’re uniquely equipped to make a difference in your community. Here is how you can help:
As an AARP volunteer you will have the opportunity to:
-Share the benefits of your life experience;
-Benefit from high-quality training and education;
-Enjoy stimulating challenges and meet new people;
-Know that you’re truly making a difference.
Community Action, Resources and Education Team (CARE) - volunteers will help bring valuable information to their communities through a wide variety of special events, fairs, and exhibits, and develop and implement fun, educational experiences. Examples of CARE team activities include but are not limited to planning community events such as “FREE Ice Cream Day” and going to health and community fairs on behalf of AARP, such as the Iowa State Fair, the Parkinson’s Conference, the Czech Festival, or any other events in your local area. This is an ongoing time commitment that is flexible and will take up 1-2 hours per month. We are looking for volunteers that are able to communicate effectively and that like to plan community events. While the Iowa State Office for AARP is based out of Des Moines we have volunteer opportunities for people statewide, including your local community.
