Description

We’re looking for volunteers to join us as Community Educators to help educate and spread awareness about Alzheimer’s and dementia in Iowa. A Community Educator is a public speaker who provides Alzheimer’s Association education programs in their community. We need people like you to help us connect with community partners to deliver presentations and ensure that people in your area have the support they deserve. Training provided.

Key Activities:

  • Deliver Alzheimer’s Association education programs on different care and support topics
  • Educators typically help deliver 12 presentations per year (or more) on a flexible basis
  • Help secure community partners and schedule presentations
  • Connect people with other Association resources and volunteer opportunities

Training

A course is provided, which includes pre-work, orientation to the Association, observation of the program(s) presented, and the opportunity for structured practice with feedback. New presenters are observed and given constructive feedback. Based on the volunteers’ needs and the resources of the chapter, new presenters may also begin by co-presenting with a mentor. If a volunteer has not presented for an extended time, Chapter staff will assess if the volunteer should attend a refresher training to ensure curriculum familiarity.
