United Way of East Central Iowa is currently seeking volunteers to facilitate a large-scale meal packaging event in honor of MLK Day of Service on January 16, 2023, at the DoubleTree in downtown Cedar Rapids. On this day, we have the unique opportunity to step up to make our communities more equitable and take action to create the community of Dr. King's dreams. In that spirit, over 28,000 meals will be packaged, boxed, and donated to the HACAP food reservoir. This philanthropy project is in partnership with Collins Aerospace and the Outreach Program.

Collins Aerospace conference attendees will be on-hand to package the meals during four separate breakout sessions. As a support volunteer, you will assist United Way staff in facilitating an organized, meaningful volunteer event. You must be able to lift 50 lbs. and perform the following duties:
- Registration Table – Check in volunteers and assist with sanitation prep.
- Team Leaders – Explain each job's responsibility and ensure that everything is performed correctly. This is a key role and is needed to be available for the duration of the event.
- Heavy Lifters /Runners/Loaders – Keep ingredients filled on packaging lines. Collect finished boxed meals, load pallets with boxed meals, and load pallets into trucks.
If you would like to volunteer for the full day, please sign up for both the AM and PM shifts. Volunteer shifts are as follows:
- 7am - 12pm includes set-up and event facilitation
- 12pm - 5pm includes event facilitation and clean-up
